Campbelltown Catholic Club Marks Seniors Living Milestone
Future residents joined local dignitaries, Club representatives and project partners to celebrate the official turning of the soil for Siquilla, Campbelltown’s new feel-good retirement community.
Campbelltown Catholic Club marked an important milestone in the delivery of Siquilla Retirement Residences, with an official turning of the soil ceremony held onsite on Thursday, 30 April.
The event brought together future Siquilla residents, local dignitaries, directors, invited guests and project partners to recognise the beginning of construction on the $120 million development, located within the Club’s precinct.
In a strong reflection of the community already forming around Siquilla, future residents attended, wearing their special orange high-vis ‘Siquilla Resident’ vests, with many bringing their own shovels and garden spades to take part in the landmark occasion.
Campbelltown Catholic Club CEO Michael Lavorato said construction marked an exciting next chapter for the Club and local community.
“With construction work now underway by Taylor Construction Group, I am delighted to recognise this milestone moment as the Club continues its journey into this exciting next chapter, offering a new lifestyle option for the local community,” Mr Lavorato said.
The ceremony began with a Traditional Smoking Ceremony by Uncle John, followed by a Welcome to Country on Dharawal land by Elder Aunty Glenda, recognising the significance of the land and marking a new chapter for the site.
The official turning of the soil was conducted by The Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP, in his capacity as both Minister and Member for Macquarie Fields, together with Campbelltown Mayor Cr Darcy Lound, Campbelltown Catholic Club Chairman David McDonald, Vice President Peter Crittenden, CEO Michael Lavorato and Taylor Construction Group CEO Mark Taylor.
Campbelltown Catholic Club Chairman David McDonald said Siquilla represented a major investment in the Club’s future and the broader Campbelltown community.
“We’re very excited for this next stage. It is by far the largest project the Club has ever undertaken, and we know that Siquilla will enhance this amazing precinct,” Mr McDonald said.
“We have a proud history of providing outstanding quality, whether through the Club, Rydges, Aquafit or other significant projects we have invested in over the years.
“Taylor Construction Group has worked with the Club previously, delivering the second stage of our Rydges hotel accommodation, and we look forward to them delivering the stunning Siquilla Retirement Residences, brilliantly designed by Studio.SC architects.”
Taylor Construction Group CEO Mark Taylor said the company was pleased to be working with Campbelltown Catholic Club again.
“We are excited to be coming back to work with the Club to deliver such a quality product, with a truly premium design,” Mr Taylor said.
Mayor Darcy Lound acknowledged Campbelltown Catholic Club’s vision and investment in the region, recognising Siquilla as an important addition to Campbelltown’s growing precinct.
The Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP also acknowledged the significance of the development, recognising the importance of quality seniors housing and the opportunity for future residents to remain connected to the Macarthur community.
Following the formal soil turning, future Siquilla residents stepped forward with their own shovels to take part in the moment, celebrating the beginning of construction on what will become their future home.
Siquilla Retirement Residences will feature 92 apartments, extensive resident amenities, an eight-storey apartment building and three levels of basement parking, bringing a new lifestyle option to the heart of Campbelltown.
As part of the development, the heritage-listed Emily Cottage will be retained, restored and repurposed, preserving an important piece of the site’s history while creating a contemporary retirement living community for the future.
With more than half of the apartments already secured, the strong early interest reflects demand for high-quality retirement living that allows locals to remain connected to the area they know and love.
Construction is due for completion in early 2028.
