Clubs Deliver Welcome Boost at the Bowser
The traditional club meat raffle has long meant sausages, steaks and lamb chops; but this year, many meat trays are coming with a distinctly 2026 twist — fuel vouchers.
With clubs continually identifying emerging local needs and responding with practical, meaningful support — and with fuel prices rising by as much as 40 per cent across NSW since the war with Iran began — it’s no surprise to see clubs coming up with innovative ways to help members.
At the Workers Lifestyle Group, $2000 worth of fuel cards are being included in regular meat raffles across their three venues; Workers Blacktown, Workers Sports and Workers Hubertus.
“We know the rising cost of fuel is hitting our members hard, so we wanted to step in and offer something that genuinely makes a difference week to week,” says Workers Lifestyle Group Executive Manager Shelley Fletcher.
“It’s about easing that pressure in a practical way, not just running another promotion.”
It proved so popular in March that it’s running again across April, with the Fuel Up & Fill Up promotion a hit with members — in an area of Sydney where up to 80 per cent of residents travel to work by car.
Across town at St George Leagues Club, members are being given an opportunity to win a share of $20,000 worth of free fuel this month.
Through the Club’s “777” promotion, there’s $700 up for grabs seven nights a week, with seven winners drawn at 7pm. Members need to swipe their membership to be in with a chance to win their share.
While the cost of fuel is shaping daily life across Sydney, the impact is just as keenly felt in the regions, where fuel prices are usually higher and more volatile, with the gap widening since the Iran war disrupted global supply.
On the picturesque NSW South Coast, Culburra Beach Bowlo is running Fuel Up Thursday every week throughout April, with members required to swipe their membership cards from 3pm to go into the draw.
A $100 fuel voucher will be given away at 5pm, $200 at 7pm and $300 from 9pm: “It’s free to enter — just swipe, stay and you could be fuelling up on us!” says the Club.
Further north, Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club has also been helping the local community, with a huge fuel giveaway kickstarting the Easter long weekend.
The Club gave away $1300 worth of free fuel in the form of $100 fuel vouchers, with $1000 worth of fuel on Good Friday and $300 on Easter Saturday — all while supporting Kingscliff Women’s Bowls Club, KBBC Golf Club and Cudgen Rural Fire Brigade.
With global uncertainty showing no signs of abating, fuel giveaways are set to increasingly become a regular part of the club promotional calendar.
