New Club Set to Open on Iconic Sydney Site
One of Sydney’s most iconic former tourist destinations is about to be revived — in the form of a new registered club.
The Greens Gledswood Hills, part of Wests Group Macarthur, will be a 40-hectare hospitality and golfing hub, built on the former site of El Caballo Blanco, the Spanish-themed equestrian and leisure park that was a hit from the 1970s until its closure on 2007.
The Club, set to open late next year, will feature a golf driving range spanning 56 bays over two levels, a nine-hole Greg Norman designed par-three golf course and a 27-hole mini-golf experience.
The clubhouse will feature bars, restaurants, a dessert parlour, and a 400 square metre children’s arcade and play centre.
With new home builds in greenfield sites a significant part of the NSW Government’s agenda, Wests Group Macarthur CEO Daniel Perkiss says the club industry is committed to working alongside government to providing recreational facilities and helping to create communities for residents moving into new suburbs.
He made the comments during an official Turning of the Soil ceremony on Wednesday, 18 February, which marked a significant milestone in the precinct’s development.
Designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population, The Greens Gledswood Hills is also intended to provide tourists and travellers with a new and exciting attraction, drawing visitors to the southwest Sydney corridor.
El Caballo Blanco at its peak featured daily performances, an indoor arena, ornamental gardens, water attractions, picnic areas and family-friendly amusements, including a small Australiana park zoo.
As Sydney expanded and visitor tastes changed, the attraction gradually declined and eventually closed, leaving the once-celebrated site dormant for many years.
Wests Group Macarthur has carefully woven design references from the glory days of El Caballo Blanco throughout the venue, with various areas referencing the former tourist attraction. This includes relics incorporated into the design, a reimagined Australiana Park experience for families, and nods to the site’s history through branding, menus and art.
The new Club will become West Group Macarthur’s fifth venue — it’s other clubs across the region include Wests League Club Campbelltown, The Sherwood Macarthur, Country Club Gledswood Hills and Lakeside Golf Club Camden.
The Greens Gledswood Hills is expected to open in late 2027.
