Doylo Celebrates 60 Years with Launch Party
When the Doyalson-Wyee RSL Club first opened in 1964, the Central Coast was mostly a destination for holidaymakers, many of whom would crawl for hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic on what is now the Old Pacific Highway.
The Central Coast is now home to 350,000 residents and, much like the newer M1 Pacific Motorway, The Doylo has become bigger and better as the population has grown.
In his speech at the Club’s 60th birthday celebrations on Wednesday night, CEO Darren Thornton spoke of the humble beginnings for the Club and its growth in the four decades in which he’s worked there.
“We commenced with 11 foundation members and now have around 35,000 members,” he said.
“We have grown into a purposeful and progressive organisation, and are proud to support and have a positive impact, for the betterment of the community and community life and spirit.”
Before the ribbon was cut and the birthday cake was eaten, the occasion was used to present $5000 cheques to local charities; Central Coast Kids in Need, Westpac Rescue Helicopter and We Care Connect, as part of ClubGRANTS.
With formal proceedings done, it was now time to enjoy recent new additions to the Club, including sports simulators – a unique offering on the Central Coast.
Cricket-loving patrons can hone their skills by facing medium pacers in a cage. Or, perhaps, hit a tennis forehand, a baseball dinger or catch a lacrosse throw.
For the golfers, there’s no need to chase a ball into the scrub with two purpose-built golf simulators.
And for motor racing enthusiasts, you can get your Oscar Piastri on and race each other around Albert Park on one of the four F1 simulators.
When you’ve finished, why not have a game of pool or head to the nearby bar to enjoy cocktails their very own branded beer.
The Club has come a long way from its humble beginnings, when the offering was merely a drink and a meal.
Now, Ready’s Bar and Sports Plus precinct has transformed the venue into a must-visit destination for every sports lover in NSW.
So, what’s next for The Doylo? Darren Thornton says that plans are underway for new developments on nearby land that the Club recently acquired.
“We are now in the process of securing the future for The Doylo with the pending development approval of our master plan of our land adjacent to the Club,” he said.
“There are very exciting times ahead for our community next door, so watch this space.”
