Is Your Club a Community Hero?
Did you know that over 4.4 million Aussies are living with disability? With nearly one in five people impacted it may already include your family, friends, neighbours or colleagues. As our population ages, mobility limitations affect millions more.
Key Points
- One in five Aussies live with disability or mobility limitations
- Accessible equipment helps people to feel included and connected
- Funding limitations severely restrict inclusion and community engagement
- Mobility Foundation was launched to help bridge the gap
- NSW Clubs can play a vital role in facilitating life changing access and inclusion
Every day across NSW, people are missing out on participating in community life — not because they lack the desire, but because they don’t have the equipment or access to do so.
At Para Mobility, we’ve spent decades supplying Australian-made accessible equipment like pool hoists, transfer systems, and aquatic wheelchairs. And in that time, we’ve seen countless stories that remind us just how life-changing the right support can be.
We’ve met Ace, the young boy who learned to swim for the first time thanks to a Pelican Pool Hoist and Aquatic Wheelchair. We’ve seen grandparents given a new lease of life as they return to sentimental locations thanks to our Wheelchair to Car Access device. We’ve watched countless families come together in aquatic centres that cater to everyone so no one gets left out.
These stories show us that accessible equipment isn’t just practical - it’s powerful. But for every success story, there’s another one left waiting.
Despite the proven impact, many Community Facilities and Individuals still go without - not for lack of will, but due to funding gaps, awareness issues, and logistical barriers.
Rather than sit back in disappointment we’ve taken a proactive approach and established the Mobility Foundation.
The Mobility Foundation is an independent not-for-profit, dedicated to bridging the gap, by funding accessible equipment for community spaces and individuals where traditional funding doesn't reach.
Through ClubGRANTS and the support of forward-thinking clubs across NSW, the Mobility Foundation helps to create more inclusive, connected communities.
Club teams know the true meaning of community. They see the regulars, the families and the quiet legends and thanks to ClubGRANTS funding, many clubs are already shaping futures in a way that’s both visible and life changing.
By supporting the Mobility Foundation, clubs can support local community initiatives and individuals, such as seniors and people with disabilities getting access to patient transfer vehicles, children with disabilities having access to swimming pools for therapeutic hydrotherapy, or seniors attending water aerobics classes for health and social benefits.
They can fund projects that demonstrate true inclusive leadership and bring people back to spaces they thought they’d lost.
Promoting awareness, advocating for inclusion, and facilitating accessible facilities not only supports those with mobility challenges — it enriches the entire community. When everyone can participate fully, we build stronger, more connected communities to live, work, and belong.
