After 662 days of construction and more than 160,000 man hours — not to mention the installation of 429 tonnes of reinforced steel and over 30 kilometres of electrical cable — Gosford RSL is ready to open the doors of its brand new three-story venue.
Last Tuesday saw the Official Grand Opening of the Club conducted by Dr Brendan Nelson AO, CEO Russell Cooper and President Gary Young, where the finished product was unveiled for distinguished guests.
The $50 million redevelopment is set on the backdrop of the area’s surrounding green hills, boasting a bright interior with floor-to-ceiling windows and a welcoming, warm feel. The main floor features a brand-new kitchen, a kids' play area, alfresco dining, a cafe, a gaming room and an expansive seating area for the over 30,000 members and guests.
The new venue is also home to the Club’s award-winning brewery, a sports bar and what is promised to be the Central Coast’s premier event centre, The Gallery.
Gosford RSL CEO Russell Cooper addressed the crowd, telling of the trials and tribulations of building such a huge project through COVID shutdowns, changes in design, wet seasons and sinking foundations.
“I've repeatedly used the words ‘vision’ and ‘courage’ when I talk about the Board of Directors because that's what you've displayed,” said Russell.

“From staring down huge financial decisions to deciding when to push the ‘go’ button, you have all constantly repaid the faith that our members have shown in you. So, on behalf of our members, our staff and our local community, thank you,” he said, addressing the Club’s Board.
Dr Brendan Nelson AO unveiled the official plaque beside Club President Gary Young before addressing the crowd in a moving speech, paying tribute to a fallen solider of WWI who was from the Gosford area and highlighting the significance of RSL clubs in the community.
“What makes us Australians are our values, our beliefs, the way we relate to one another and see our place in the world,” Dr Nelson said.
“Thank you for what the clubs do to give us a sense of community.”
The new Gosford RSL will open to members and guests on Wednesday, 27 March.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to our new home, where we will continue to create lasting memories and serve our community with warmth and hospitality,” reads a post on the Club’s Facebook page.
