What exactly is the program?
The Purple Flag Program assesses areas based on a set of criteria before promoting them as excellent night-time destinations.
If an area has been identified as a purple flag precinct, you can expect good public transport, well-lit streets, and great places to eat and drink.
NSW joins 90 global destinations with the Purple Flag, including Stockholm, Aberdeen, Dublin and Auckland.
What are its benefits?
As an accredited location, NSW can expect some fantastic benefits, including:
- A raised profile and improved public image
- More visitors and increased spending
- A drop in crime and anti-social behaviour
- Better promotion of the area’s nightlife
- A stronger, more successful mixed-use economy over time
Clubs can read more details in Minister John Graham’s media release here.
The NSW Government is eager to revitalise the night-time economy, so clubs can expect more happening in this space very soon. Stay tuned!
