Member clubs are advised that AUSTRAC has announced changes to transaction reporting that will affect all reporting entities, including clubs. Details are available here.
WHAT IS CHANGING
From 1 July 2026, AUSTRAC will introduce:
- New reporting forms for:
- Threshold Transaction Reports (TTRs)
- Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs)
- Updated data requirements to improve data quality and support stronger detection of financial crime
- A new reporting system in AUSTRAC Online, including updated dashboards and submission processes.
Clubs can transition to the new reporting any time between 1 July 2026 and 30 March 2029.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CLUBS
Clubs need to ensure systems and processes can capture and submit the expanded data required under the new forms, which may require system updates or vendor changes.
Clubs do not need to rewrite their AML/CTF program. Only the parts that relate to transaction reporting need updating.
AML/CTF Program Updates
Clubs should review and, if necessary, update:
- Reporting procedures: how TTRs and SMRs are prepared, submitted, escalated and approved internally
- Systems and controls: how required data is captured, validated and checked to ensure reports are accurate and complete
- Policies and documentation: update references to reporting obligations so they align with the new data fields and reporting expectations
- Training materials: update staff guidance and compliance resources to reflect the new reporting forms and submission process.
WHAT CLUBS SHOULD DO NOW
Clubs should begin preparing by:
- Reviewing the preview forms available in AUSTRAC Online
- Engaging with system providers on required updates
- Assessing gaps in current data capture and reporting processes
- Planning targeted updates to AML/CTF programs and procedures
- Scheduling staff training ahead of implementation.
