Ballina RSL's Healthy Hospo Hearts
The sudden passing of a young chef following a heart attack in late 2021 served as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritising health and wellbeing for everyone at Ballina RSL — especially in high-stress environments like the hospitality industry.
In a touching response to the tragic loss of chef Minh Griffiths, Ballina RSL launched the Healthy Hospo Hearts initiative.
The Healthy Hospo Hearts initiative rallied together staff, board members and the community to participate in various physical activities over two months in support of healthy heart research and awareness.
Participants walked, ran, swam and exercised to raise funds for The Heart Foundation Australia, ultimately generating over $12,000.
The culmination of the initiative was a grand six-course degustation dinner organised by the Club, featuring local chefs. This fundraising event, attended by patrons who purchased tickets for the dinner, showcased the community's commitment to promoting heart health and honouring the memory of their beloved late staff member.
The impact of Ballina RSL's initiative extends beyond the fundraising, with additional defibrillators to be placed around the region and the continuous support of crucial heart health research.
The Club’s ongoing dedication to the initiative underscores their commitment to improving the physical health and wellbeing of the community.
As Ballina RSL's Healthy Hospo Hearts initiative demonstrates, clubs play a vital role in promoting healthcare and improving community wellbeing.
