Wests Group Macarthur Unveils The Sherwood
Southern Western Sydney has gained a stylish new sports bar and entertainment venue. Formerly known as the Wests Tennis Club, The Sherwood now offers premium sports viewing, a spacious outdoor dining area and an exciting food and beverage menu.
Wests Group CEO Daniel Perkiss said the goal of The Sherwood was to provide something very different from what the Group already offers at their main Club just down the road.
“Through the design phase, it was always about how we produce something that will attract a different demographic, but also complement our suite of existing offerings,” Daniel said.
“You won't see the word ‘club’ mentioned anywhere. It's fresh, modern, vibrant, with a big amount of sports screens and entertainment. There is also a huge outdoor space which creates an offering that is unique to this area.”
Venue Manager of The Sherwood Julia Maulguet said ‘The Sherwood’ name itself has a special meaning.
“Firstly, The Sherwood is Robin Hood's secret hideaway as we are hidden in the back of Lumeah in a perfect hideaway destination,” Julia said.
“It's also one of our earliest suburbs in the area, Sherwood Hills. Our carpet actually has a map of the area on it.”
A big drawcard for the venue is the alfresco dining and recreation space, which allows for plenty of live entertainment — Fridays feature the MEGA meat raffles and live music, while Saturdays and Sundays boast DJs spreading good music and vibes across the venue.
“We have this huge retractable roof. We have windows that open and there's a lot of greenery and it's very vibrant,” said Julia.
“I think that will bring people in the door but what will keep people here is our food offering and our beverage offering. We really want this place to be somewhere where families can get together and celebrate together with good food, good drinks and good times.”
The Sherwood’s Food and Beverage Manager Simon McNamara said the new venue was keen to offer traditional club classics together with a range of share platters and fresh dishes highlighting local produce.
“We've done some really great flat-grilled burgers, gin-cured kingfish and we've got a fantastic way to do a flank steak,” Simon said.
“Partnering with local people is a big thing that we do, so our local butcher provides a lot of the food for our group and we are partnering with local brewers around here as well. We've made sure we've got some international beers, we've got some great tap cocktails and a couple of tap wines.”
There are also food and drink specials on every night of the week — from ‘Two Tacos for $12’ Tuesdays to ‘1kg of Wings for $20’ Wednesdays.
Wests Group member Monique Brady is thrilled to call The Sherwood her new local.
“I see it as the perfect place to come on a Sunday afternoon to have a couple of drinks with friends and enjoy the live entertainment on offer,” said Monique.
“It’s great having such a big share menu as well, where you can bring your family and friends and go okay, let's try all the shared menu and mix it up a bit. The Sherwood brings the elements of the club industry, but it also brings that fun, fresh atmosphere of pubs. I love it.”
The Sherwood is located right next to Campbelltown Stadium, making it the perfect location for pre- and post-game meals and catch-ups, or watch more sporting matches on the big screens.
“We've got two exciting teams being the Macarthur Bulls and the Wests Tigers. This year in particular the Wests Tigers are bringing five quality games to Campbelltown Stadium,” said Daniel Perkiss.
“This new venue before and after game day will be exciting and it'll further complement our community's love for football, soccer, and all things sport.”
