Beachside Bowlo Prepares for Summer Rush
Situated just metres from the sun-drenched sands of Kingscliff Beach on the Far North Coast of NSW, Kingscliff Beach Bowling Club’s bistro, bar and greens have long boasted spectacular water views. But after an extensive 16-month renovation, the beloved community bowlo is looking better than ever — with a few new features to boot.
The seaside Club is now home to a spectacular beer garden, complete with a shipping container pop-up bar, as well as a freshly renovated bistro area, which Kingscliff Beach Bowling Club General Manager Phillip Kelly says was well overdue.
“The Club hadn’t been touched since 2004, so we are getting a lot of positive feedback,” Phillip said.
The venue opted for a contemporary, coastal feel for the finishes on the renovation, and Phillip says that by taking over three rinks on one of the three bowling greens and turning it into a beer garden, the Club was able to diversify its offering and create a space for the whole community to enjoy.
“We’ve put tables and chairs down on the bowling green and opened the pop-up shipping container and decked it all out with a bar, fridges and taps,” he said.
"We also have a fully fenced-off kids’ play area, which gets great feedback from parents.”
Now that the newly renovated bistro is complete and open for service, the Club is looking to turn the shipping container into a food outlet that can be used by local charities and organisations to raise funds.
“We are thinking of putting it out to our local charity groups like Lions and Rotary to give them an opportunity to make money and in return, they can provide steak sandwiches, hamburgers and a sausage sizzle for families using the space,” Phillip said.
The outdoor area is perfect for summer, with huge six metre umbrellas and mist machines to keep patrons cool, complementing the natural sea breeze. Phillip says he’s anticipating a very busy Christmas period at the Club.
“We’ve just had our family fun day which saw 950 people in the venue and a $4000 toy raffle. Soon we will be starting our 12 days of Christmas campaign, and throughout the season we will have regular entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.”
“Add to that barefoot bowls every day except Mondays and we are set for a huge summer!”
