Leichhardt Bowlo’s Resident Distillers Take Out Top Gong for Dry Gin
Independent gin distillery Lily Fields Distilling Co. — whose cellar door and pop-up bar are based in the leafy beer garden of Leichhardt Bowling Club — has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Australian Gin Awards Trophy for Best in Class, Classic Dry Gin for their Juniper Dry Gin.
Lily Fields was established in Sydney’s inner west just over nine months ago by husband-and-wife team Jen and Shannon Hunt, who put their sudden success down to a combination of science and creativity.
Before setting up Lily Fields, Jen worked as a drug development chemist for the pharmaceutical industry while Shannon’s trade is design and construction. The dynamic duo say they were honoured and humbled to receive the recognition of their hard work and are immensely grateful for the support of their customers.
“The synergy between Lily Fields Distilling Co. and the Leichhardt Bowlo is about local community. It exemplifies the spirit of collaboration.”
Jen attributes part of the company’s success to its local focus, with Lily Fields sourcing all its citrus from the local Orange Grove School markets, where the couple’s daughter went to primary school, and use a Lilyfield pepper tree in their award-winning dry gin.
The partnership with the local bowlo has also been a huge asset.
“The synergy between Lily Fields Distilling Co. and the Leichhardt Bowlo is about local community. It exemplifies the spirit of collaboration. The Club is a unique destination for gin enthusiasts and locals alike,” says Jen.
The Australian Gin Awards Trophy win is just the beginning of what promises to be a long and exciting journey for the innovative and passionate distillery, whose range now includes the award-winning Juniper Dry Gin, a Sydney Dry Gin, a 2023 Pinot Noir Gin, Negroni and a Cold Brew Coffee Liquor.
“This trophy is the eleventh medal Lily Fields Distilling Co. has earned since their launch and we couldn’t be prouder to have them based in our beer garden here at the Club,” says Leichhardt Bowling Club President Alistair Scott.
“Their pop-up bar and cellar door have become incredibly popular with Club members and visitors, who are always keen to support local businesses. We can’t wait to see what they achieve next!”
