Gosford RSL Fosters Future Leaders
Thursday, 17 August saw the Gosford RSL Max Potential Celebration event take place at The Entertainment Grounds, where hundreds of locals came together to recognise the achievements and personal leadership growth of the local community’s future leaders.
Facilitated by Gosford RSL Club, the Max Potential Leadership Development Program connected young adults from 14 schools on the Central Coast with local community and business leaders who have been trained as coaches. Each young adult has been on a transformative six-month personal leadership journey with Max Potential. With the support of their Community Coach, each one of them has grown in their confidence, achieved goals and applied leadership principles to strengthen their thinking and develop good habits.
It was inspiring to view the Community Service Pitch of each of the young adults, developed during the Program and in response to what each saw as a need in the local community. Their displays were vibrant and creative, each displaying a unique and entrepreneurial idea that they were passionate about.
Guest speakers included Russell Cooper, CEO of Gosford RSL Club, and the Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP — both encouraged the students, coaches and the community to strive for their goals and dreams.
A personal reflection video from Gosford High School’s Lian Sequeira was a highlight, showing her journey of understanding her significance and aiming for progression, creatively displayed through the pieces of a puzzle.
“I am a puzzle still in progress — not perfect, but getting there piece by piece,” said Lian.
Sofia Harper’s Community Service Pitch film was shown to the audience too: the development of a not-for-profit organisation that crochets beanies to give to cancer patients — a well thought-out and unique initiative run through her Care Beanies website.
Daniel de Lore of Green Point Christian College told of the incredible opportunity he has had to be a part of Max Potential, and how grateful and proud he is of his growth, learnings and the deep changes he has made. Daniel explained the significance of identifying his values as the roadmap to navigating the complexities of life and gaining clarity on how he can contribute positively to the community.
Community Coach Heidi Iveson has coached eight young adults over the years and has seen first-hand their increase in confidence, organisational skills, and improved leadership capability as they understand their self-worth and belief in themselves. She reflected on how privileged she has been to learn the art of coaching, receive personal coaching from a qualified coach, give back to the community, and seeing young adults realise their potential and reach their goals and dreams.
Each school, sponsor, Community Coach and young adult was presented with their certificate at the Gosford RSL Max Potential Celebration — an outstanding wrap-up to a valued program developing our future leaders on the Central Coast.
