A Big Boost for Rugby League on the Central Coast
As part of its five-year strategic plan for rugby league, the Wyong Leagues Group is set to focus its attention on major upgrades to the Roos’ home facilities at Kanwal.
The improvements will be great news for league players, as the projects marked for completion are designed to ensure that playing conditions are optimised, meaning more playing time will be made available throughout the 2024 season and beyond.
In total, over half a million dollars will be spent on a range of projects targeting pitch drainage and lighting.
“These big improvements will ensure that the Central Coast will now have a truly first class dedicated rugby league complex which addresses a real need within our community”
Corey Garratley, Wyong Leagues Group’s Executive Manager of Property, Safety and Sport
The drainage improvements on the premier playing field, Morry Breen Oval, will be completed ahead of kick off in 2024 and will guarantee less pitch closures as a result of extreme weather. This is welcome news considering the disruptions to the season due to the heavy rains experienced over the past two seasons.
In addition to the new drainage systems, a significant upgrade to the lighting at the oval will allow night time games to be played and viewed at the very highest standard. The Club’s juniors have been considered in this investment program too, with new lights being installed on the junior ovals at Bill Hicks Field. This will help provide younger players with much safer training conditions and provide far more options from a scheduling perspective.
“These big improvements will ensure that the Central Coast will now have a truly first class dedicated rugby league complex which addresses a real need within our community,” says Corey Garratley, Wyong Leagues Group’s Executive Manager of Property, Safety and Sport.
Wyong Leagues Group CEO Ben Coghlan is equally as excited about the investment.
“This investment is just the beginning of our five-year strategic plan to improve and develop the future of rugby league here on the Coast, it builds upon several major improvements that we have made over the last couple of years with a new canteen and improved bar facilities being added.”
