Gaming Code of Practice Commences
The Club Gaming Code of Practice (the Code) came into effect on 1 July 2023, with many clubs already undertaking training and implementing policies in line with the new requirements.
The Code has been well received by government ministers, members of parliament and regulators as a practical demonstration of the club industry’s commitment to providing safe venues for recreational gambling.
ClubsNSW will continue to take a practical and educative approach with the Code, and support clubs to meet their obligations.
What can your club be doing to ensure compliance with the Code?
- Add the Code to your board agenda — discuss progress towards implementing it in your venue and your Gambling Incident Register
- Inform ClubsNSW of your Responsible Gambling Officer (RGO)
- Work on your Implementation Plan
- Adopt a Gambling Policy Statement
- Plan training that your staff and directors will need to complete over the next 12 months.
A range of guidance materials and templates to support the Code are available via the ClubsNSW website here.
Training is available from a number of providers, including ClubSAFE and Barringtons. All training, excluding Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) at this stage, is available online. For directors attending CEI seminars, AML/CTF and Responsible Gambling Oversight Training, this may be included in your session in the next 12 months.
If your club is having any difficulty accessing training within the required timeframe, or to find out more about the Code, or ask any questions about applying the Code in your venue, you can contact ClubASSIST on 1300 730 001 or send an email to [email protected].
