Something for Everyone at Bankstown RSL’s Glass House

The area was officially opened by NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris at an event on Thursday, 13 August. ClubsNSW CEO Rebecca Riant was among 100 attendees who marked the milestone.

Complete with five extra-large HD television screens with immersive sound, a premium bar and gourmet kitchen serving value-packed club favourites, the Glass House is many things at once.

It’s designed to be a true social hub — a welcoming watering hole, sports fans’ haven, family meeting spot and date-night dinner staple all in one. 

Taking its name from the floor-to-ceiling glass windows looking over Meredith Street, the Glass House is a reinvention of a previous space called The Void.

“That side of the Club died… so, we set about trying to reintroduce the space — make it more inviting, make it alive. And that's pretty much where we landed,” Bankstown RSL CEO Scott Dickson said.

“One of the problems the other space had post-COVID was it was so big, and so wherever you sat within the area, you always felt alone and a bit isolated. 

“What we tried to do is make the (Glass House) area very, very active, so there's a lot of big screens in the area. It's very boutique, very compact, nice and neat, big screens, so you can sit and watch the NRL, the AFL, the cricket.

“If you're in there, even if you're on your own, you feel quite comfortable in the space you're in. Combine that with a bit of food, a bit of beverage, and you’ve got a wonderful, cool little space.”

And while clubgoers will be treated to a five-star experience, they need not worry about paying a premium.

With a menu centred around classic fare, the Club is intent on delivering savings to members.

“You get value for being here,” Dickson said.

“It's already very affordable, you’re discounted further as a member and it just gives an opportunity to re-engage with another space. You don't have to come and gather at one place every time – you can go to one of four.”

The Glass House complements other dining options at the RSL including Star Buffet, Kickin’ Inn and Coffee Club.

The versatility of the newest addition is central to the Club's vision.

“If you want to have a beer, you can just come and have a beer,” Dickson said.

“If you want to come with your wife, your husband, your partner and have dinner and a glass of wine, you can do that.

“If you just want to sit and watch some sport, it’s an area we hope will be a bit of a first choice.

“(We want people thinking) no matter where I go, or what I want to do, I can always go to Glass House and I'm right.”
