Construction Begins on World-Class Kids Play Zone at The Sherwood Macarthur
Wests Group Macarthur is set to deliver the largest family entertainment zone in southwest Sydney after beginning construction on The Woodlands, a treehouse-themed children’s precinct at The Sherwood Macarthur in Leumeah.
Slated to open in late 2026 or early 2027, the world-class project is almost double the size of the venue itself and promises to inspire adventure, imagination and active play in kids of all ages.
Key features include towering cube structures up to nine metres high, interconnected climbing mesh, water and sensory play zones, basketball courts, an outdoor viewing screen, an arcade zone and a dedicated toddler area named the Spellbound Shack.
Developed in partnership with leading playground and recreation specialist KOMPAN, The Woodlands draws inspiration from the legendary Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood.
“The Woodlands represents the next stage in the evolution of The Sherwood Macarthur,” Wests Group Macarthur CEO Daniel Perkiss said, with the venue having become a vibrant community hub since opening in 2023.
"This is much more than a playground. The Woodlands has been designed as a complete family entertainment destination where children can spend hours exploring, climbing and playing while parents enjoy the great food and hospitality they have come to expect from a Wests Group Macarthur venue."
Complementing the play space, The Sherwood will also house a new café and kids’ sweets counter, serving hot donuts, lollies, loaded soft serve, gelato, snow cones, old-fashioned milkshakes and light meals.
Wests Group Macarthur expects it will add up to the ideal place for families, birthday parties and group bookings to enjoy.
"The Woodlands, together with the launch of our exciting new family café serving sweets and treats, will provide families across southwest Sydney with a hospitality and entertainment destination unlike anything currently available in the region, and we're incredibly excited about the next chapter at The Sherwood,” The Sherwood Venue Manager Julia Maulguet said.
KOMPAN Australia Managing Director Debbie Chambers added: "We're excited to work with Wests Group Macarthur on a project of this scale and ambition.
“The Woodlands will set a new benchmark for family recreation in southwest Sydney and will be one of the most significant play projects delivered by KOMPAN in Australia.
“The Woodlands is exactly the type of project KOMPAN is passionate about delivering. It combines adventure, physical activity and family fun in a way that creates lasting value for the community."
