Australia’s night-time economy was valued at $188 billion in 2024, highlighting its growing importance to local communities and the important roles of venues including clubs.
JCDecaux, in partnership with Right Angle, has released the report The 5 to 9 Economy to study and understand Australia’s night-time economy.
Some of the key highlights from the report:
- From 2021 to 2024, Australia’s night-time economy grew 29%.
- More than four million Australians now regularly work at night across a variety of sectors.
- 82% of people go out at night to spend time with family and friends.
- 52% of people say illuminated signs including advertising make spaces feel safer at night and 56% say these signs make public spaces feel more alive.
It was also found that cities prioritising after-dark strategies are out-performing those without. Within the report, it was found that NSW Vibrancy Reforms have driven a 6.4% growth in hospitality and entertainment hubs including Parramatta and Burwood.
ClubsNSW has proactively worked with the NSW Government, including The Hon. John Graham MLC (Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy), Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) and the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner to advocate for members throughout the various tranches of Vibrancy Reforms.
The report can be downloaded as an eBook, which can found here.
