Wests Group Macarthur Launches Winter Food Appeal

The Group has partnered with Big Yellow Umbrella’s Hamper House program to provide essential food support to vulnerable people across the Macarthur region.

Wests Group Macarthur is urging its members to donate non-perishable pantry items with a shelf life of at least six months — including rice, pasta and canned goods such as tuna — to fill take-home winter hampers.

Donation boxes will be set up at the reception of Wests Leagues Club, Country Club Gledswood Hills, Lakeside Golf Club and Big Yellow Umbrella’s head office in Narellan until Tuesday, 30 June.

“At Wests, we strongly believe in empowering our community partners to deliver what is needed around the region, when people need it,” Wests Group Macarthur CEO Daniel Perkiss said.

“Big Yellow Umbrella does an exceptional job of supporting both individuals and families within the local community. We are pleased to support the Hamper House Program.”

As rents and interest rates continue to climb alongside everyday necessities, Big Yellow Umbrella has reported a “significant increase” in the demand for food assistance services from a broader demographic.

“The cost of living has meant local families cannot afford fresh fruit and vegetables and we are inundated with requests for support,” Big Yellow Umbrella’s Kim Landouw said.

Wests Group Macarthur regularly teams up with Big Yellow Umbrella, a not-for-profit that has supported the community since 1987 by reducing social isolation and disadvantage.
