Education has long been a cornerstone of the NSW club industry. From volunteer directors stepping into governance roles to experienced managers navigating an increasingly complex operating environment, learning has always underpinned strong decision making and sustainable clubs.
A Strong Foundation
Club education was historically experience based and informal. This approach reflected the community driven nature of clubs and helped establish strong local leadership. However, as regulatory requirements expanded, member and community expectations evolved, and the limitations of a largely informal and variable approach became clear. Clubs needed education that was more consistent, contemporary and accessible without losing its practical, industry specific focus.
Meeting the Needs of Modern Clubs
Today’s club directors and managers operate in a demanding environment. Strong governance, ethical leadership, financial oversight, risk management and culture are no longer optional. They are essential. The partnership with Allara enhances ClubsNSW’s education offering by combining deep industry knowledge, professional learning design and increased online accessibility.
Our engagement with clubs showed there was a need for education that is relevant, practical, all encompassing, flexible and transferable. Flexible delivery options allowed clubs to engage with education in a way that suits their size, structure and operational needs.
Importantly, this approach supports both new and experienced learners.
Looking Ahead: Education as a Strategic Investment
As the club industry continues to evolve, education will play an even greater role in supporting long-term sustainability. The partnership with Allara will give member clubs access to future focused learning that supports succession planning, leadership development and organisational culture.
For individual clubs, this is about more than compliance. Ongoing education reduces risk, strengthens governance, and helps attract and retain capable directors, managers and staff. It also supports clubs to adapt to change, embrace innovation and continue delivering value to their members and communities.
Strong education builds strong leadership, and strong leadership builds strong clubs. Through this partnership, clubs across NSW are supported to grow, adapt and thrive.
