The international 16 Days of Activism campaign is taking place from 25 November to 10 December this year — and member clubs are encouraged to get involved.
This is an annual worldwide initiative designed to raise awareness and advocate for change, to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. It runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day). It’s also known as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
As part of the ClubsNSW Social Impact Strategy, the Association has made a long-term commitment to lead the club industry in creating real and lasting change — and taking part in 16 Days of Activism is just one way that we are building industry awareness around domestic and family violence.
The theme for 16 Days of Activism this year is: “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls”. The focus is on preventing online abuse and creating safer digital spaces for women and girls. Violence, whether online or offline, affects one in three women globally and remains a critical human rights issue.
How Your Club Can Get Involved
Clubs have a unique opportunity to lead by example and show solidarity. Some practical, impactful actions you can take during the campaign include:
- Raise awareness online and in-venue: Share educational posts about gender-based violence and digital safety on your club’s social media pages and website. Include campaign messages in newsletters, on screens and during other events at your club. You can find templates and digital resources in the Orange the World / UNiTE toolkit here. On social media, be sure to:
- Use the hashtags #16Days and #OrangeTheWorld
- Tag @yourlocalclub on Facebook or Instagram, and @ClubsNSW on LinkedIn, so that we can highlight your involvement in the 16 Days of Activism campaign on our channels.
- Host a community event: Organise a panel discussion, webinar or Q&A with local experts on preventing violence and promoting respectful relationships.
- Support survivors: Collect donations or gift cards for local women’s shelters and promote helplines and support services (e.g. 1800RESPECT in Australia).
- Engage creatively: Run a community art project (e.g. murals, chalk art, photography) themed around respect and equality.
