Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club Champions Young Football Star
A bright young football talent has emerged in the Great Lakes region, with Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club rallying behind Lexie Jones as she prepares for the 2026 Mid Coast FC Premier Youth League season.
Still in primary school but already showing maturity well beyond her years, Lexie has become a standout in both her sport and her community.
When news came through that Lexie had been selected for the Mid Coast FC Premier Youth League Team, Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club moved quickly to support her next steps.
Rather than handing over a cheque, the Club embraced a grassroots approach that encourages independence, confidence and community engagement.
General Manager Terry Green says the Club wanted the fundraising experience to be meaningful for Lexie as well as other budding young athletes in the region.
“Instead of giving the kids $1000 or $2000, we ask our suppliers to donate raffle items. The kids then come into the Club, set up their table and sell the tickets themselves,” he says.
With the help of suppliers, Lexie has been selling tickets to Club members, speaking with patrons and even jumping on the microphone to thank supporters.
“She’s a champion little girl from a really talented family,” Terry says.
“Everyone here loves getting behind young athletes and Lexie handled the whole thing like a pro.
“She’s already the vice-captain of her primary school.”
The Club’s members have responded overwhelmingly, embracing Lexie’s efforts and contributing generously to the raffles. Lexie recently profited $1000 towards her dream in one campaign.
Terry says the community’s passion for junior sport makes initiatives like this a natural fit.
“It’s easy money for the kids because everyone wants to support them. We’re in such a strong sporting area and our members really enjoy helping young people have a go,” he says.
Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club has a proud history of supporting junior athletes, with previous fundraisers helping children with disabilities compete at a state level.
Lexie certainly won’t be last young person to benefit from the Club’s commitment to community sport.
