Bathurst RSL Director Paul Hennessy has been awarded the 2025 Central West Volunteer of the Year for his support of the scouting movement over more than half a century.
Paul was recognised at the 2025 Central West Volunteer of the Year Awards at Orange Ex-Services Club for helping young people to gain skills, build resilience and make strong connections.
The Centre for Volunteering hosts the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards to help promote and support volunteering across NSW.
Now in their nineteenth year, the Awards help celebrate the work of thousands of individuals and volunteer teams from a diverse range of organisations across the state.
“Congratulations to the recipients of the Central West Volunteer of the Year Awards,” said NSW Minister Jodie Harrison, who has responsibility for volunteering.
“You’ve been recognised as heroes by the people in your communities who know you best.
“Thank you for your ongoing contributions, which make NSW the best state to live and work in. These Awards are an important way we recognise your passion and dedication to your local communities.”
Paul, who has volunteered with NSW Scouts for over 50 years, is currently an NSW Honorary Branch Commissioner and Deputy Chair of the North-West Scout Fellowship.
Throughout his time in the scouting movement, Paul has given of his time to mentor members and help foster positive mental health.
He recently started his own program to help kids from regional areas get access to scouts by providing free equipment and clothing.
Paul also volunteers at the All-Saints Cathedral office in Bathurst, has been a Director of Bathurst RSL for 12 years and is a community Justice of Peace.
His Central West Volunteer of the Year Award follows another honour earlier this year, when he was crowned a Living Legend by Bathurst City Council.
