New Industry Initiative: ‘Clubs for Community — United Against Violence’
Clubs are invited to attend the official launch of the club industry’s national domestic and family violence (DFV) initiative, Clubs for Community — United Against Violence.
On Tuesday, 27 May 2025 Bankstown Sports Club will host the inaugural gala event launching Clubs for Community — United Against Violence, an industry initiative aimed at ending domestic and family violence (DFV) through nation-wide collaboration, education and advocacy.
Clubs for Community brings together the collective power of over 1100 registered clubs and more than 40,000 full-time equivalent employees to address the urgent and widespread issue of domestic and family violence. With more than 5.6 million club members across NSW, the movement aims to drive real change — locally and across the state — by transforming clubs into trusted sources of safety, support and action.
Through its three core pillars — Advocate, Educate and Collaborate — the initiative will:
- Advocate by raising awareness and supporting systemic change to address the root causes of violence
- Educate through training and resources that empower club staff and members to recognise and respond to signs of violence
- Collaborate by building networks between clubs, local services, law enforcement and community organisations.
The need for urgent action is underscored by the confronting statistics. One woman is killed every week in Australia by an intimate partner; police respond to over 140,000 DFV-related calls annually; and the national economic cost of violence against women exceeds $26 billion per year. The club industry is stepping into its leadership role by using its unique footprint and trusted position in communities to turn these numbers around.
The inaugural event is more than just a celebration — it is the beginning of a national movement that will continue through key annual activations such a Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May and the 16 Days of Activism in November. From the city to the outback clubs across Australia will have the opportunity to offer training and promote access to support services.
