Club Mudgee Staff Pledge to Donate Tips to Charity
Clubs are always making a positive impact on their local community through their support of charities and groups, but for the staff at Club Mudgee their contributions are personal.
Each month, team members pool their tips and then nominate a charity to support. Over the past few months, Club Mudgee has raised substantial amounts of money for various causes.
“It was started by our gaming manager, Shelly – and she generally consults with the staff as to who gets the donations for the month,” says Club Mudgee CEO Sharon Arrow.
“The focus is local charities and causes but sometimes it goes to bigger organisations such as the Movember campaign.”
In December, the staff donated $1200 to the Mudgee Baptist & Combined Christian Churches Christmas Hamper Appeal, with an additional $478 raised post-Christmas to support families in need during the festive season.
This generosity ensured that local families received much-needed assistance during what can often be a challenging time of year.
In January, the Club’s focus shifted to the National Association for Loss and Grief (NALAG) in Mudgee, where they raised $420 to support this vital service, which provides essential support to those dealing with loss and grief.
“There is something special about being the only Club in a regional town,” says Sharon.
“Community is critical, it is the core of our existence and when that spills over into the behaviours of staff, you know you have something special.
“As a leader it fills me with pride and respect. We are in a cost-of-living crisis and these guys have sacrificed a few extra dollars out of their pay packet, for their neighbour. That’s community!”
February brought the most poignant of causes to the forefront. The story of Evie, a young local girl diagnosed with leukemia, captured the hearts of the community. Club Mudgee members rallied together, raising $918 to support her family during this difficult time.
Recognising the urgency and importance of their funds, the fundraising group was encouraged to apply for a grant to further assist with a community fundraising event held at a local winery. With the backing of Club Mudgee, it became a resounding success.
“I am in regular contact with Evie’s aunty,” Sharon says.
“Evie’s mum is now living in Sydney next to the hospital to be close to Evie, while the rest of the family remain in Mudgee.
“We had a gold coin donation sausage sizzle on Australia Day for them raising $300. We also donated $1500 through ClubGRANTS and staff donated over $900.
“The family has thanked us publicly through the Evie’s Hope Facebook page – and I have received numerous thank you messages from Evie’s mum and aunt. And we are here for them if they ever need anything else.”
In March the team decided to support a charity close to the heart of many clubs; Little Wings. The team raised $418.
“I am so proud to lead a team of selfless, giving, generous human beings,” Sharon says.
“We stand tall knowing we serve and live in the one community. Support comes in many ways and this gesture epitomises how the club culture of giving back, and being the cornerstone of community, flows through to our staff actions and care for others.
“I am honoured to be part of it.”
