Bankstown Sports Club Launches Social Work Scholarship
Bankstown Sports Club has partnered with Western Sydney University to offer a duration of degree scholarship to a student enrolling in a Bachelor of Social Work.
The Bankstown Sports Club Scholarship in Social Work will provide recipients with the opportunity to advance their education in the field of social work without the financial barriers that may otherwise impact their access to tertiary education.
This program is designed to assist individuals who are experiencing financial hardship, with a preference for those who live in, or around the Bankstown area.
The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year for four years, for full time or part time-equivalent study.
The Bachelor of Social Work degree offers the valuable skills and knowledge needed to help people deal with personal and social problems, either directly or by planning and carrying out programs that will benefit groups or communities. It prepares students for work in a range of sectors, including private or government agencies, welfare support organisations, community groups or in health.
“At Bankstown Sports Club, we understand the power and value of education, and we want to break down some of the barriers to learning that many in our community face. The most prominent of these being cost,” said Bankstown Sports Club Sporting and Community Partnerships Manager Michael Hanratty.
“Providing access to such a worthwhile and meaningful course, where the financial burden of course fees and associated studying costs like books and travel is removed, is a no-brainer to us.”
Professor Adam Possamai, Interim Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Western Sydney University, said the university was proud to partner with Bankstown Sports Club to offer the scholarship opportunity.
“The Bankstown Sports Club Scholarship in Social Work will provide crucial support to a talented social work student, enabling them to focus on their studies and future career,” he said.
“We thank Bankstown Sports Club for their generous commitment to students in the local area, including those who study at the University’s world-class Bankstown City campus.”
