$15,000 Raised for Georges River Life Care Thanks to Moorebank Sporties
Moorebank Sports Club — or “Sporties” as it has become affectionately known — has pulled local community members and businesses together to raise $15,000 for Georges River Life Care (GRLC).
On Sunday, 8 September, the Club arranged for close to 200 people to meet at Homestead Park in Chipping Norton for the Care For A Walk event, which saw mums and dads, children, grandparents, local football teams and more either walking or running the five-kilometre track to raise funds for GRLC.
The money raised will go towards purchasing a new commercial food rescue van for GRLC, which will allow them to continue delivering their food hampers to people in need.
“Sporties is so proud to be part of this wonderful fundraising initiative to get Georges River Life Care the van they need, so they can continue to deliver their services to our community,” said Sporties People & Culture Manager Alison Hester.
“It was great to see so many people involved in the walk and enjoy the food and activities afterwards. A fantastic community event that we will continue to support for many years to come”.
Georges River Life Care CEO Karen Power said she was extremely grateful for the support.
“It was such a privilege to be part of a wonderful community event alongside Moorebank Sports Club and our corporate sponsors, to raise funds for such a great cause,” Karen said.
“It was a great vibe, with nearly 200 people participating in our charity walk. Over $15,000 was raised, enabling Georges River Life Care to purchase a commercial van to increase our capacity in the Liverpool LGA to rescue food for struggling families with increasing food insecurity.”
The Club thanked several sponsors, including Liverpool Council, Gold Security Management, Sunblest Cleaning Services, Hennessey Coffee and Coca-Cola Euro Pacific Partners — as well as their staff members who gave up their Sunday to volunteer for BBQ duties, to run the refreshment stand and to pitch in with the kids’ face painting.
