Tradies Caringbah is celebrating after one of their patrons scooped one of the biggest Keno wins in history, taking home $6.7 million.
The Kirrawee man, from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, was having dinner with his family last weekend when he decided to play the game.
He held a Keno Classic 10 spot winning entry and a Keno Mega Millions 10 spot winning entry in draw 532, drawn on Sunday, 20 October.
The Keno Classic 10 spot entry scored $1,023,365.40, while the Keno Mega Millions 10 spot entry won $5,703,663.40, netting a total windfall of $6,727,028.80.
By playing his special set of numbers in both games in the same draw, he won both jackpots simultaneously.
“I’m fantastic, it’s fabulous news,” he cheered when an official from Keno spoke with him after his double win.
“I’m over the moon, it’s honestly still sinking in. We were out for dinner, I put a few bucks on, and the rest is history.
“It was pretty amazing that I played both games, Keno Classic and Keno Mega Millions, it really worked out well. I’ve used these same numbers for a while. They’re certainly my lucky numbers now.”
In the last financial year, Keno players across the eastern states celebrated more than 78.5 million wins, collectively worth more than $1.16 billion.
During this time, Keno crowned 18 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $46.7 million.
Eight of these major winners were from NSW and the ACT, including a Shelly Beach dad who scored a $5.92 million windfall.
The Kirrawee man said the win at Tradies Caringbah was life changing for his family.
“Thank you so much, it’s going to change a lot of things,” he said.
“I can help my family, and I’ll have a good think about what else I’ll do.”
While the excitement was unfolding at Tradies Caringbah, there were further celebrations 140-kilometres north at Wallarah Bay Recreation Club.
A Chittaway Bay man scored the Keno Mega Millions 9 spot jackpot in draw 896, winning more than half a million dollars.
He was at the Club with a friend when he decided to play the game, but remarkably didn’t find out about the win until later in the day when he returned to the Club to check his ticket.
“I was just at the Club with an old friend when I bought the winning entry,” he said.
“Whenever I play a game of Keno, I just put it on and forget about it. Well, I completely forgot about this one and went home and had a nap. It wasn’t until later, that I went back to check it.
“When I gave it to a team member, he said ‘you might’ve won the big one!’. I was just laughing and I said, ‘yeah right’.
“Then he confirmed it was actually me. I couldn’t help but let out some pretty big swear words. I even started shaking, I had never had something like that happen.”
He said the win would make a huge difference in his life.
“Of course, the first things that come to mind are all the fun stuff like a new bat or new car, but in reality I’m looking forward to paying off any bills I have and working less. It’s absolutely life changing.”
Despite vowing to work less and having very little sleep, the man turned up to work the next morning.
