Club Seeks Urgent Assistance as Far West NSW Continues Without Power
Broken Hill Musicians Club’s generator is running critically low on diesel, with General Manager Michael Boland sending out an urgent call to the club industry for help.
A storm which rolled through Far West NSW last Wednesday knocked out the region’s critical electricity infrastructure and it’s feared tens of thousands of residents will be without reliable electricity for up to a month.
Despite Transgrid operating a large generator to power the region, residents can expect regulator outages and Michael Boland says the region has been without power since 5pm yesterday.
“The situation is deteriorating in Broken Hill and the Far West,” he says.
“After having no power from 6.30pm Sunday night to 9am yesterday morning, the generator then overheated and caught fire yesterday afternoon at 5pm,” he says.
“The entire Far West has been without power since.
“The entire Far West could be without power until Saturday, if not longer. I was at the Club at 4am this morning with the maintenance team trying to keep our generators running, but due to the demand on the Club, we are going through a lot more diesel than normal.”
Michael has this morning issued an urgent call for help, saying locals are depending on the Club during this tough time for their remote community.
“I urgently need a regular bulk supply of diesel to the Club to allow us to keep serving Broken Hill. Last night we did 500 meals and had 600-plus people in the Club enjoying a cold drink and the air cooler.
“Is there any way that someone could get a truck to Broken Hill as soon as possible with as many 44-gallon drums of diesel as possible to be delivered?”
