“Surround Yourself with Strong Performers”
“Don’t ask your people to do anything you wouldn’t do yourself.”
That was one of the key messages at this morning’s keynote address by Marty Moore at the 2024 ClubsNSW Conference.
Delegates have gathered at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre for the three-day conference, which wraps up this afternoon.
With a career spanning more than 30 years as a corporate executive, Marty describes himself as a ‘no-nonsense’ communicator.
He is passionate about cutting through what he says are the mountains of fluff and cliches that tend to dominate many leaders of today.
In delivering his keynote address, the third keynote of this year’s ClubsNSW Conference, he challenged delegates to shift their perspective, by providing practical strategies to take back to clubs to improve leadership performance.
Among some of his other key messages, he told the audience that “our people are our greatest asset” and that “happy workers are productive workers”.
His direct, cut-through approach has made his podcast, No Bullsh!t Leadership, one of the top leadership podcasts globally, with over five million downloads in more than 150 countries.
His book, by the same name, debuted at number two on the Wall Street Journal bestseller list, with his sole purpose of both the podcast and book to improve the quality of leaders globally.
And Marty spoke of the importance of leaders surrounding themselves with a competent team.
“The quality of your team isn’t set by your strongest performer, it’s set by your weakest performer,” Marty told the audience.
Delegates will shortly split up into breakout sessions, covering topics such as live entertainment, cyber security, hospitality trends and regulatory risk. Attendees will also hear about the club industry’s response to the ongoing scourge of domestic violence.
The Conference wraps up this afternoon.
