Laurieton United Services Club Holds Country Music Fundraiser
Akubra-capped smiling faces were a plenty as some of Australia’s best country music artists converged on Laurieton United Services Club on 14 September.
The much-anticipated Country Music Festival brought in hundreds of concert-goers, with acts playing from noon, well into the night.
While a ticket to most concerts in 2024 will rarely give you change from a $100 note, those wishing to attend only needed $15 for entry to see a huge lineup of artists.
Acts included the Fair Dinkum Country Band, Vanessa Sanger, Ken “Chainsaw” Lindsay, Geoff McKay, Sharon Salter, Darryl Rouland and Paul Styles. There was something for everyone with ballads to toe-tapping country classics being played all night long.
Festivalgoers also had the chance to win prizes in raffles, while the Women’s Auxiliary also had a stall setup full of treats.
All proceeds from the festival went towards supporting local country music initiatives through the Camden Haven Country Music Group, helping to ensure the country scene continues on to the next generation.
“Hosting events like the Country Music Festival not only brings people together but also helps keep the country music tradition alive in Camden Haven,” said Laurieton United Services Club General Manager Robert Dwyer.
“We’re passionate about supporting our local community and providing a platform for local talent to shine.”
The entertainment doesn’t stop there for the Club. Its nearby venue, Kew Country Club, also hold country music shows every third Sunday of each month.
“It’s an opportunity for music lovers to come together and celebrate the region’s rich musical heritage while creating a welcoming space for emerging talent to perform," Dwyer said.
"Our ongoing partnership with the Camden Haven Country Music Group and the monthly shows at Kew Country Club reflect our commitment to fostering a vibrant local arts scene and ensuring everyone has a chance to enjoy and participate in this rich musical culture.”
It’s not just country music that both clubs will be offering. Throughout October great cover bands are readying to rock out as well.
On 1 October Swifties will be treated to the Taylor Swift cover band, Shake it Off. Just a few days later, Abbalanche will play hits from the ever-popular ABBA.
And to close out the month, on 25 October black t-shirts will be a plenty as Altimate Grunge comes to play rock hits from bands such as Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Green Day, Blink 182 and Soundgarden.
In between all the rockin, there’s a Bonsai and Penjing exhibition on 19 October. If you prefer peace and quiet.
