Newcastle & Hunter Clubs Have Got Your Back
The sixth iteration of the ClubGRANTS advertising campaign has kicked off today, highlighting the support that clubs in the Newcastle & Hunter region provide to Got Your Back Sista.
Got Your Back Sista is a Newcastle-based charity that empowers women and children to thrive after escaping domestic violence. The not-for-profit organisation — which receives no government funding — provides furniture and household items to help set up a safe home free from violence. It also runs courses and programs to rebuild the confidence, self-esteem, physical and emotional wellbeing of those who have fled domestic violence, and creates pathways to study and employment.
Last year, over $47,000 in ClubGRANTS from seven clubs in the Newcastle & Hunter region to Got Your Back Sista helped provide one-on-one case management to more than 50 women, and assisted eight families through their Begin Again program.
“Got Your Back Sista helps women and children begin again after experiencing domestic violence and we’re proud to support their work through ClubGRANTS,” said Club Maitland City CEO Ian Martin.
Under the Your local club banner, ClubsNSW has produced one 30-second and two 15-second ads promoting the relationship between Newcastle & Hunter clubs and Got Your Back Sista which will appear on Broadcast Video On Demand (BVOD), pre-roll video, YouTube and social media.
Running over a period of eight weeks starting on Thursday 20 June, this ClubGRANTS campaign will also include advertisements on the side of buses in and around the Newcastle & Hunter region, as well as 30-second ads on local FM radio stations.
Below are the Newcastle & Hunter clubs who support Got Your Back Sista:

“When a woman comes to Got Your Back Sista, we strive to ensure they feel safe, nurtured and supported. Our belief is they can reach their full potential after experiencing domestic violence with the right support and guidance,” said Melanie Hamilton, Got Your Back Sista Board Director.
“The continued support of the Newcastle & Hunter clubs has been crucial in enabling women and their families to escape domestic violence and rebuild their lives.”
As the NSW Government reviews the ClubGRANTS scheme, it presents an opportunity to highlight the incredible support that NSW clubs provide to the community, creating lasting positive impacts.
This ClubGRANTS campaign series will continue to focus on how clubs, through the ClubGRANTS scheme, provide immeasurable support to numerous initiatives that improve the lives of those in their communities, including:
- Wests Group Macarthur, Campbelltown Catholic Club and Ingleburn RSL, that have committed $600,000 over three years through the ClubGRANTS scheme to fund the purchase and installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in residences across the Macarthur region.
- The six clubs in the Illawarra & South Coast region that have committed a collective $80,000 to Lifeline South Coast through the ClubGRANTS program.
- The 11 clubs on the Central Coast that have provided over $150,000 to local surf life saving clubs.
- The tens of millions of dollars’ worth of support that registered clubs provide to the game of rugby league every year through ClubGRANTS.
- The nine clubs in the Tweed Shire that have provided $320,000 in ClubGRANTS to Shaping Outcomes — an early intervention service for children with a disability and/or developmental delays.
More key areas will be highlighted in regions across the state.
ClubGRANTS is one of Australia’s largest and most established grant programs and is a partnership between ClubsNSW and the NSW Government. It commenced in 1998 to formalise the longstanding practice of clubs responding and contributing to local community needs.
In the past 12 months, a record $121 million in financial support for community services, projects and programs was provided through the ClubGRANTS program — that figure exceeded the mandatory contribution required under the ClubGRANTS Guidelines by over $50 million.
