ANZAC Day, the ACE Awards and More
- Executive Column
I hope you all had a wonderful ANZAC Day yesterday. My day began with a very moving Dawn Service at the War Memorial in Castle Hill, followed by a lovely breakfast at Castle Hill RSL with my 13-year-old son, Billy.
The ClubsNSW Media team was flat out in the lead-up to Thursday, arranging TV, radio and newspaper coverage for ANZAC Day commemorations and events — including games of two-up of course — at clubs right across the state, which was fantastic to see come to life. If you missed 9 News on Tuesday night, I highly recommend you take a look at reporter Mike Dalton’s feature piece on Cronulla RSL and their delightful four-legged member, retired war dog Manic, here.
I actually watched Manic’s “interview” on catch-up TV myself, as on Tuesday night I was honoured to attend the 22nd Australian Club Entertainment (ACE) Awards at Campbelltown Catholic Club’s incredible venue, The Cube. It was such a fun evening jam-packed with world-class entertainment and performances, including from recent Golden Guitar winner Max Jackson, Tom Burlinson, Kate Ceberano and Wendy Matthews.
Well done to the team at St Johns Park Bowling Club and everyone else involved in organising such a great event. As I said during my speech at the ACE Awards, our industry plays such a crucial role in supporting the development of up-and-coming entertainers — their local club is often the first venue to give them the opportunity to perform and make a name for themselves. Likewise, entertainers bring so much value to our clubs. I fondly remember seeing my first “gig” at Mooney Mooney Workers Club when I was a kid, running around barefoot on the grass while listing to Renée Geyer belting out some tracks!
At the end of my speech, I was also excited to show the audience our Your Local Club — Where Friendship Belongs advertisement, which I received some excellent feedback on. I encourage you to show the Your Local Club ads in your club and share them across your social media channels. You can download the videos here and the still images here.
A reminder that public voting for the Your Local Club Perfect Plate Awards kicks off next Tuesday, 30 April. Best of luck to all those competing! Don’t forget to download your unique QR code/s and marketing materials by logging into your Perfect Plate account at perfectplate.com.au, and be sure to grab a copy of next Tuesday’s Daily Telegraph to see the Perfect Plate wrap-around on the paper, complete with the full list of participating clubs and a look at some of the dishes on offer this year.
