Fundraising Event to Honour Sacrifice of Veterans
Mental health is a major concern for emergency responders and veterans, with trauma leading to PTSD, anxiety and depression.
From 2001 to 2017, there were 419 suicides in serving, reserve and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel who have served since 2001.
Within 12 months of discharge, nearly 49 per cent of Defence Force veterans develop mental health issues.
High rates of suicide and mental health issues stem from the emotional and physical toll of their roles. Despite their critical service, access to mental health care is often limited or stigmatised.
24 Hours of Heros is working to provide support, raise awareness and improve care for these heroes that have served us.
The 24 Hours of Heroes event is a fundraising fitness event which honours the service and sacrifice of veterans and first responders.
The event engages participants in physically demanding and community-driven activities that raises both awareness and funds to support these individuals dealing with mental health challenges following their service, as well as providing broader support for those who have served in the military or emergency services.
On 26 & 27 April, participants will complete one CrossFit "hero" workout every hour for 24 hours, starting at 8am on the Saturday and concluding at 7am on the Sunday.
The event aims to register 100 athletes and raise $50,000 through sponsorships and donations. This event will be held across numerous CrossFit gyms in Australia and NZ.
