International Women’s Day aims to collectively forge a more inclusive world, to invest and accelerate progress for women. To openly embrace their diversity of race, age, ability, faith, body image and how they identify.
Thirty years ago, the world committed to a bold vision for gender equality, the United Nations’ Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Since then, we’ve seen women break barriers, reshape policies and ignite global movements. Yet, despite these strides, the promises made remain largely unfulfilled for millions of women worldwide. We are simply not where we should be.
It’s time to turn promises into progress.
The Revesby Workers’ Group has a commitment to positive community impact, having contributed over $1.4 million during the past 12 months to support local initiatives. Part of this commitment includes hosting an International Women’s Day event.
This annual fundraising lunch attracts over 300 professional attendees from hospitality and corporate industries, and provides the opportunity to network and be truly inspired by guest speakers.
On Friday, 7 March, Revesby Workers’ Club will host its fifth International Women’s Day event, with tickets including a three-course sit-down lunch and beverage package, live DJ entertainment, inspiring guest speakers and a special IWD raffle with all ticket proceeds to be donated to Biyani House.
Biyani House is a local women’s shelter, which provides an inclusive, culturally aware service and safe place for women experiencing domestic violence and homelessness within the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA.
In 2024, the Club’s IWD event raised over $24,000 for Biyani House.
This year’s event will feature a stellar line-up of speakers, including:
Sallianne Faulkner
ClubsNSW Chair, General Manager of Bayside Women’s Shelter, Netball NSW President, Societie Group President
Sallianne Faulkner is a passionate community leader dedicated to promoting women’s safety and building strength in communities. She is the General Manager of Bayside Women’s Shelter in Sydney’s east and the chair of ClubsNSW, the peak industry body for the club industry in NSW. She holds also leadership roles in Societie Group and Netball NSW.
Sallianne’s focus across these roles is to improve her local community’s wellbeing and resilience, encouraging everyone to work together for the best outcomes. She was named Woman of the Year in Rockdale in 2020 and continues to work for improved social cohesion and strong inclusive environments.
Grace Rowe
Stand Tall Australia Public Relations, Junior Motorcross Racer
Grace Rowe grew up racing motocross as one of the only junior females fully sponsored in Australia. In recent years, she trained in freestyle motocross where she became one of just a few women in the country to clear a 75ft gap.
Last year, she had an accident in training which resulted in a broken pelvis in six places. She was airlifted to hospital where she spent a total of 45 nights including three surgeries. Over 15 months of rehabilitation, Grace learnt to walk again and undertook trauma therapy. She is now learning to reconcile an experience that brought unprecedented fear and pain, as well as strength and resilience. Grace looks forward to sharing her remarkable story of overcoming adversity.
Frida Deguise
L.A Donuts Owner, Professional Chef, Stand-Up Comedian
Donut mogul, chef, and comedian Frida DeGuise is a self-proclaimed ‘Wogan’ (part ‘wog’ — part bogan). This 5ft something Australian-born, Lebanese Muslim makes up in heart what she lacks in height. She’s gregarious, hilarious and driven by a comedic tenacity and ambition rarely seen in this country. And this absolute passion for comedy makes Frida such a joy to watch.
One of the few Muslim comedians in Australia, this unique, mother-of-four and successful business owner is creating huge waves and smashing racial stereotypes and cultural divides.
