Ramsgate RSL Gets Behind ‘Snacktember’
Ramsgate RSL has joined forces with not-for-profit charity Snacktember, to help reduce food waste and help feed hungry kids by collecting unwanted snacks and pantry items during the month of September.
Snacktember was started by little Lennox Wade when she was just three years old, after she began to notice her mum complaining about the uneaten snacks in the family’s pantry while also hearing her teacher say that some kids aren’t lucky enough to have lunch to eat each day.
In partnership with OzHarvest, Snacktember helps to reduce food waste and feed hungry kids by collecting unwanted snacks and pantry items and distributing them to hungry kids.
Since it started, Snacktember has collected over 750 kilograms of snacks to share with the disadvantaged and those facing food insecurity. The charity’s supporters have organised collections right across Australia — in schools, offices, gyms and even in their homes. These collections have helped to contribute to the delivery of more than 500 meals for hungry kids.
Now, Ramsgate RSL is getting behind the cause.
“As soon as we got the email, we knew that this is something we could get involved with,” Ramsgate RSL Operations Manager Nicole Heinrich told ClubLIIFE.
“If we can get around an initiative that both our team and our members can get involved with, we jump at it.”

The Club sought the involvement of the local IGA grocery store, which supplied a trolley for the foyer for the Club’s members and guests to donate snacks.
“We're four days in and the trolley is half full already. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next three weeks with everyone getting on board,” Nicole said.
“It's a true problem in society and we have the chance to not only help kids that unfortunately don't have snacks but also stop wastage that might end up in landfill.”
Nicole and the team are encouraging other clubs to get involved in the initiative in any way they can for the last three weeks of September.
“I urge all clubs to get on board with this fantastic initiative driven by the inspiring school student Lennox,” Nicole said.
“I believe we can all learn from Lennox and do better with our wastage and what better way than through Snacktember.”
