November Bites
Burlesque and Bubbles at Nambucca Heads RSL
This month saw Nambucca Heads RSL Club hold its first ever Burlesque and Sip afternoon.
Nabbed as an afternoon of “boas, bubbles and burlesque”, the Club hosted 20 local ladies for the event, with the $35 tickets selling out a week ahead.
All skill levels were encouraged, with the afternoon promising a dose of fun, fizz and fancy footwork, encouraging local women to book something a little different for a ladies’ day out.
The Club provided a private room for the instructor and guests, putting on an all-female bar to ensure attendees comfortability while unleashing their “inner diva”.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive with each of the students saying they would come back for another class, and Club management already looking to host another event in the future.
Community Serviced with Fortnightly Mobile Library
Crescent Head Country Club on the Far North Coast hosts a mobile library service for members and guests fortnightly on Wednesdays between 9:30am and 11:30am.
Previously, the Club had the only library in the village, however as the Club expanded it was clear that there was not enough room for the thousands of books on offer.
The Club refused to shut down what they deemed as an important service until there was a resolution, leading to the council deciding to fund a mobile service for the region, and as a result taking on the thousands of books from the Club’s original library.
The Kempsey Shire library van pulls up at the Club carpark each fortnight, with stock not limited to the books from the Club’s collection.
The library team and the Club are thrilled to work together to create this regular, visible and important service for Crescent Head residents.
Eat the Street at Maclean Bowling Club
The second weekend in November saw a huge party take place in the carpark of Maclean Bowling Club on the Far North Coast.
Eat the Street took over the Club’s carpark turn into a festival of food trucks, music and markets, as thousands of people descended upon the six-hour event.
The event which was facilitated by Only Good Times Events Company, saw food vendors from across northern NSW and southern QLD spoiling members and guests with delicious options.
In total there were 12 separate food trucks and stalls with varying cuisines including Asian, Turkish, Moroccan as well as twisted potatoes, dessert options and Iced Tea Co serving up non-alcoholic drinks.
Visitors were also entertained with live music by local musicians Sonny James and Marshall Okell, leaving members and guests thrilled with the day of fun.
“Fantastic afternoon. Good to see so many people out & about,” wrote one attendee on social media.
“Great day. Look forward to the next one,” added another.
The Club has already begun planning the next event.
Bonsai Tree Exhibition Hits the Newcastle & Hunter Region
Thousands of people headed to Club Macquarie in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region of NSW earlier this month to attend the annual bonsai exhibition.
The three-day event which is held by the Newcastle Bonsai Society saw more than 80 miniature trees on display, including some which were for sale.
Newcastle Bonsai Society Vice President, Chris Dibben told NBN news to create a bonsai tree, you will need lots of love and patience.
“You need to know a little bit about how to grow a tree but that can be gained at our meetings that we hold every month,” Chris said.
The exhibition also had demonstrations from members of the society and raffles.
