Introducing the Canopy at Club Rivers
In the post-pandemic world where we are eager to leave the memories of isolation and darkness behind us, alfresco eateries, rooftop bars and innovative dining spaces continue to be a top priority for patrons when it comes to choosing where to enjoy a meal and socialise.
Cosy, creative and inviting areas filled with natural light where club-goers can dine and enjoy entertainment are a trend that is set to continue for the industry well into 2023 and beyond.
Many clubs continue to invest in these alfresco and alfresco-esque areas, with Club Rivers in southern Sydney being the latest. The Club recently upgraded their venue to include The Canopy — an expansive rooftop area flooded with natural light that features an impressive vaulted, operable glass roof that can be opened in fine weather and closed again when it gets chilly.
With a build by Boden and Altis as the architects, The Canopy can seat 80 — or around 100 standing — in airconditioned comfort and has an open-air balcony which can accommodate a further 40 patrons and acts as a break-out zone ideal for cocktail parties and casual events.
The Canopy created an additional 200 square metres of room for the Club, turning the air space above an eight-metre wide former ground-level carpark into the impressive rooftop venue — and patrons are loving it.
“The Canopy is a space that has an abundance of natural light and natural air flow which can be enjoyed as a great destination for your F&B experience,” says 20-year club veteran, CEO Paul Millar.
“The response has been excellent; we had the full support of the members as they agreed that an amazing space such as this was missing in the Riverwood area. It has been well occupied by families and gatherings of friends and also just for a casual catch up for a drink or two.”
With it’s indoor-outdoor feel and serene ambiance, the new dining space is particularly popular with families. Large groups can also be accommodated, and the fresh, bright area is the perfect place for celebrations.
“The booth seating at the rear of The Canopy has proven to be the go-to area for smaller bookings,” says Nikoleta Musiadou, the Club’s Restaurant Supervisor.
“From this space, you can still be involved in the action throughout the Club if you desire, catch a game with friends, but also have the privacy to enjoy an intimate occasion. It has created such a relaxed ambiance.”
Alongside refreshing the bar and bistro with Mike’s Grill @ Club Rivers in early 2022, the addition of The Canopy has created a new look and feel throughout the Club’s main floor, attracting a new demographic to the venue while delighting long-time members.
