The Culinary Leaders of Club Land Revealed
Your local Club Perfect Plate Awards Host, Darren Carr
Hosted by comedian Darren Carr and featuring entertainment by some of Australia’s best homegrown singers and songwriters, the 2023 Your Local Club Perfect Plate Awards Night on Tuesday, 1 August was a celebration of the people who make clubs an amazing place to dine out and an inspiring place to work.
The evening saw nearly 400 guests attend the special cocktail event at Norths Cammeray to watch the three state-wide winners and 13 regional winners of the Perfect Plate Awards announced by celebrity chefs and Perfect Plate Awards ambassadors Matt Moran and Courtney Roulston, as well as ClubsNSW ambassador Nathan Hindmarsh.

A club from the Norths Collective group took out the top spot in the Northern Metro region for the first two years of the Perfect Plate competition — and the menu the team created for the Awards Night certainly showcased their incredible culinary talents.
Guests were noticeably impressed by the food, which was paired with beverages provided by Carlton & United Breweries, Treasury Wine Estates, CUB Premium Beverages, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.
NSW clubs are emerging as true leaders in food, with the Perfect Plate Awards shining a spotlight on the quality and diversity of club cuisine right across the state — from the Prawn Saganaki which saw Sharks at Kareela win the Southern Metropolitan region, to the Sixteen Hour Slow-Cooked Brisket which won Armidale Ex Services Club first place in the New England Tablelands & North West region — an award the Club has now won three years in a row.
On stage at the Awards Night, Matt, Courtney and Hindy raved about the Perfect Plate dishes they had tasted on their tour around NSW during the voting period, applauding club chefs for their efforts.
In his official welcome, ClubsNSW Chairman Dr George Peponis OAM announced that going forward the Perfect Plate Awards Night will be held in a registered club every year.
“The Perfect Plate competition is all about recognising excellence in club dining, so it’s fitting that the Awards Night reflects that,” he said.
Newly appointed ClubsNSW CEO Rebecca Riant told the audience she was pleased to see so many clubs supporting local producers, farmers, brewers, wineries and distillers when it comes to designing their menus.
“Local produce is great for our community, our local economy and of course, brilliant for the environment,” she said, adding that she is looking forward to being introduced to more unique culinary specialities at clubs as she continues to visit member venues across NSW.
Just as he did at the 2022 ClubsNSW Conference Dinner, Darren Carr had the audience in stitches with his brand of self-deprecating humour and cheeky insights into his own club experiences. The Talent Development Project also provided two incredible musical entertainers for the night — Fletcher Pilon, a former Australia’s Got Talent winner, and Jade Steg, a Sydney-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who placed third in the American Songwriter Song Contest with her debut original release Right at the Wrong Time.
