26 Million Containers Recycled by The Doylo

The Doylo on the Central Coast is tackling environmental sustainability head-on, with a new report finding that their on-site Return & Earn machine has recycled over 26 million containers since it was installed at the venue five years ago.
The impressive result is the equivalent of filling 61 Olympic swimming pools or 163 garbage trucks with the resulting emission reduction akin to taking 1154 cars off the road for a year.
The Club’s CEO Darren Thornton said he is proud of the impact that the Return & Earn initiative has delivered.
“The impact is significant, this recycling process impact equated to 262,348 trees being planted and 174,852,650 kilograms of carbon emissions avoided,” Darren said.
“The scheme also returned $2 million in refunds back into the community.”
A spokesperson from the Club also said that they are confident in achieving net zero emissions in an “achievable and realistic time frame.”
“The Doylo Lifestyle Group acknowledges that the climate crisis is real, and action is needed to reduce their carbon footprint.”
To do this, the Club has engaged with ESG (environmental, social and governance) consultants to develop pillars of focus for their action strategy. The first focus being on environment, with policy around climate change, asset management, waste management, sustainability and producing a carbon footprint report.
The Doylo Chief Commercial Officer Brett Elliss said that this proactive step will help them achieve their goals sooner.
“Our vision is to create a way of life and our purpose is to deliver progressive lifestyle destinations and invest in our communities,” Brett said.
“When we consider this, it’s about designing a better future with a responsible and ethical approach, looking at the big picture and our responsibility in the community, in our region, our country, the world to leave it a better place.”
As well as the Return & Earn site, some other initiatives already in place at the Club include:
- 80 MWH solar energy.
- 318KL of water saved.
- 52 cubic metres of landfill saved.
- Developing a paperless environment.
- Reusing eco-friendly raffle and prize bags.
- Conducting online meetings rather than driving to offsite meetings.
