Financial Support for Clubs Engaging an Apprentice

Relevant for Directors, CEOs, HR Managers

Member clubs are reminded that financial support is available for clubs employing an apprentice.   

Since 2022, the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System has supported businesses in meeting current and future skills demand.  

Through Clubs Australia, ClubsNSW has advocated for strong government support measures and incentives for people to commence and continue with apprenticeships. We are also advocating for more flexible study rules to reflect the challenges for regional apprentices.

Opportunities for clubs through the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System can be found in the table below.

Priority Wage Subsidy  

Clubs engaging an apprentice that is training towards a priority occupation at a Certificate Level III or above, such as chefs and cooks, may be eligible for the priority wage subsidy.  

The priority occupation list can be found here.  

An employer can only receive this subsidy if they are not currently receiving any other government assistance for the apprentice. 

The subsidy can be claimed here.  

Currently open, with the program closing on 30 June 2024.  
Hiring Incentives  

Clubs engaging an apprentice that is not undertaking a course listed on the priority occupation list may be eligible to receive a one-off payment made after six and 12 months of their employment. 

  • $1750 for full time apprentices  
  • $875 for part time apprentices.

Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support (DAAWS)  

Clubs engaging an apprentice with disability may be eligible to receive a weekly payment of $104.30 for: 

  • 12 months if the individual has a long-term or permanent disability 
  • The length of the temporary disability. 

The payment can be claimed here.  

Currently open, with the program closing on 30 June 2024. 

The program also offers incentives to apprentices, encouraging them to pursue a trade while recognising their continued development.
